Kenyans are not happy that film footage of the 2013 Westgate Mall terror attack in Nairobi was used in American Tv series 24: Legacy.

Why? Because in the series, the attack is said to have happened in Egypt. Of course, this is a fictional TV show and Egypt fits into the developing storyline more than Kenya does. After all, the attack in Kenya was by Al Shabaab and the terrorists in the 24 are from a different cell from the Middle East.
In the controversial footage, a woman a counter-terrorist agent is seen playing the clip then saying:
“This is the footage from Al-Jegrad market in Alexandria Egypt three years ago. The attack was planned and executed by Bin Khalid and his men,”

Here is the clip

Unfortunately, Kenyans are having none of that. Many claim it’s insensitive. Some argue that if the producers wanted to depict a terrorist attack in their show, they should have acted their own scene instead of using footage from Westgate. This is still debatable since live footage has been used in fictional cinema for years. Film rules don’t necessarily dictate that actual facts about the footage should be included in a film or Tv show’s storyline.
The ’24 Legacy’ series is a spin-off of the original 24 series that aired between 2001 and 2014. Everything else is pretty much the same as the original 24. The only difference is that there’s a new hero called Eric Carter. The hero in the previous series was Jack Bauer who ended up being captured by Russian antagonists.

Here are some tweets from angry Kenyans.
